Crystals: "you're doing it wrong"

_____________

I believe with all my being that crystals can be incredibly helpful for people from all walks of life. You can use them in active meditation, rituals, or carry them in your pocket as a gentle reminder. But you don’t have to do any of that. If you think a crystal is beautiful and want to purchase it—that’s totally okay! There is no need to charge your crystal, cleanse your crystal, or work with it, if it is simply an aesthetic piece. The Earth is capable of making beautiful things and there are plenty of people who love crystals just because they are stunning

Too frequently in the crystal industry, there are gatekeepers—people who want to tell you where to place certain crystals and how to use them, no exceptions. Of course, I can help you with that. If you are looking for a crystal to work with regarding a situation that you are going through—I can advise you on a great piece to pick up from our shop, and a good ritualistic practice to help strengthen your soul during a trying time. But here’s the truth of the matter: it’s what YOU say and what YOU do that will give the crystal its power.

For example, one of my favorite ritualistic practices is a Citrine bath. Take your Citrine (a water safe crystal) and pour yourself a luxurious bath with all the extras. Safely close your eyes and envision your financial dreams coming true. Visualize yourself as if you already have these things: the nice house, the reliable vehicle, the rich love of your significant other, lavish bedding, whatever your heart desires. Hold the Citrine over your Solar Plexus Chakra. (You can roll it on the skin, pending the shape of the crystal. I prefer a Citrine sphere for this practice.) Moving forward, when you see the bright glow from your Citrine, let it transport you back to that vision. This can help you maintain your focus on these goals. Then, place the Citrine on your desk and allow it to remind you that you are working toward financial freedom, or not to browse the internet and spend money needlessly, but to save it up for a vacation with your significant other, for example. Or, put the crystal in a safe, so that every time you place cash in that safe, you know what you’re saving for, and you’ll be reminded of that vision. You know what else you can do with Citrine? Put it on an opulent stand in your hallway and look at it every so often and smile. There is no right or wrong way to own a crystal. Again, if you don’t use it in practice—that’s okay. Not everyone will. That should be normalized.

Some people purchase amethyst because their mom loved it. Some people will purchase nautical pieces because they remind them of their grandfather. All these things should be more widely accepted in the crystal community. I think at the end of the day there are a few important things to know:

  1. Know if your crystal is water safe and how to clean it properly.
  2. Know that your crystal will assist in helping you reach your goals, but only you can truly put in the work. They are magical assistants, but they will not solve your problems. Unfortunately, that’s not how the world works.
  3. You give your crystal power—your affirmations, the feelings that crystal evokes in you, the visions you get when you see that piece. It’s not the other way around.
  4. Crystals are here to make you feel your best. Whether it’s to heal, to grow, to feel protected, to change, or just simply to make your space more beautiful.
  5. Don’t let anyone make you feel that you’re “doing it wrong” if you don’t charge your crystals under the moon, regularly sage your stones, or just enjoy admiring them, rather than actively practicing with them.
Remember, despite what others may say: you are NOT doing it wrong.
