3 Alternatives to Binge-Watching Netflix

We all love Netflix. Really, can we even remember a time when we didn’t have streaming of complete seasons…without commercials?!? Nope.

While binge-watching an entire season of Bridgerton can sometimes be just what you need, other times the TV binge can leave you feeling less than satisfied, antsy, and actually bummed out. So, let’s reach back to some pre-binge days for some alternatives to the Netflix marathon.

  1. Read a book. Whether it is on your Kindle, iPad, or a paperback from the library, reading a book can be utterly satisfying and can light up the creative parts of your brain. You can find your imagination jumping into a great adventure, romance, or mystery while giving your brain a little stretch. Have you downloaded your library’s app? It’s a great way to try tons of free audio-books and books.
  1. Plant a garden. It can be a few plants in pots on your windowsill, a raised bed, or a garden plot, but gardening doesn’t have to be a burden. Sometimes all it takes is a little sun, water, and soil. The satisfaction of watching something grow, can be enormously rewarding and if you plant veggies or herbs, you can actually eat your harvest!
  1. Try something new. We’re not all into knitting, but the idea of trying something new, learning a new skill, or taking on a new project, can be highly rewarding. If you’ve always loved to draw, consider watching some YouTube videos to guide you. Dreaming of a trip to Spain post-pandemic? Start learning Spanish through an online program.

Next time you are scrolling through Netflix on a Saturday afternoon and are frustrated the next season of “Nailed It” doesn’t come out until next year, head on over to the library (for a book), your local garden center (for some plants), or YouTube (for a new skill). Pro tip: pick one day a week as your TV-free day. The Wednesday slog may get a little bit better if you have something fun to look forward to at the end of the night.
